FOOD DEPOT.

FOR WELLINGTON UNEMPLOYED. WELLINGTON, July 20. Daily a small crowd of people gather in the cellar of the Town Hall to await the opening of the food depot, which has been established there by the. City Council. Whilst all praise is due to those ladies who have gone down every afternoon *.O dispense the gift foodstuffs, there were on one occasion some vogjotabk' marrows lyb/,' about thci floor, and as they became split and broken were being trodden underfoot by the applicants for food. The five tons of sweed turnips from Levin are also lying, practically untouched in another part of the cellar, simply for the lack of a few men volunteers to serve them out to the people. A great number of the applicants for food are waterside workers or their dependants. It is suggested that the Waterside Workers’ Union might detail a few of its unemployed members to assist ill Ute handling of bulk goods at the Town Hall, at least to the extent of seeing that there is no waste. The ladies concerned would be very thankful if they could get further supplies of tea, flour, oatmeal, and rice, as the present stocks are practically exhausted.
