RONA MISHAP.
OFFICERS CULPABLE. AUCKLAND, July 17. The Court of Inquiry into the Rona j mishap found that the main responsibility was with Chief Officer Grantley, 1 but the Master, in acting as he di.l, ' was not acting fully in accordance with the high traditions of seamanship and the exacting care at all times required of a master. ! The Court attributed the casualty to ' the mate’s mistakes, and to the fact ' that he never seriously accepted the responsibility of being in charge at j that time. Captain Wallace was ordered to pay ; half the costs of the inquiry. Grant- I Joy’s master’s certificate was suspend- j ed for six months, and he was ordered j to pay half the costs of the inquiry. > The captain was commended for his seamanship after the disaster.
