The report that Lord Reading has resigned as Viceroy of India is denied. Air J. D. Wingham, formerly’ of tho Albion Hotel, is this week taking over the Club Hotel, Groymouth, from Air Culling. Aliss K. Kerr, Schoolmistress at Ru Ru, returned last Saturday from an extended holiday, which was spent at her home in Kaikoura. Alatron K’tto, of the local hospital, left by Saturday’s express on a holiday. and in her absence Sister GBraidwood will act as matron. < On Saturday Air G. AlacKenzie, formerly’ of tho local High School staff left by’ lhe express for Christchurch to join the staff of West Christchurch school. The Alisses N. and A. Walsh, of the staff of the Grey River Hospital, leave by’ to-morrow’s express for Christchurch and Dunedin on a three-week’s holiday trip*. Air C. Edgar, ALA., after being for a year on the Cobden School staff, left on Saturday to take up a post at tho Gore High School. At Cobden school on Friday he was the recipient of several presents from the pupils. The friends of Air W. Rowe, who met with a dynamite accident at Kumara some time ago, will be pleased to hear that he has improved wonderfully, and expects to leave the Grey River Hospital in the course of a week or so.

Air Charles John Cutter, of Millerton, died in the Westport Hospital on Wednesday, from pneumonia complications. Deceased, who had been 9 years in New Zealand, was a native of Upper Norwood, England, and 50 years of age. Aliss Joyce Robinson, AI.A., who is to take up a position as teacher at the Greymouth District High School, arrived in town by’ the express on Saturday evening, and is staying with Airs S. Chapman. Aliss Robinson was previously' teaching at the Napier High School. On Wednesday, the death took place at Reefton Hospital of Airs E. Cairns, at the advanced age of 83, of which 24 years had been spent at Reefton. Deceased was a native of Berwickshire, Scotland, and was predeceased by her husband, the late Robert Cairns, who at one time conducted Burke’s Creek Colliery, ; The second daughter of Air and Mrs A. Warwick, of Dunollie, Lily, aged 17 years, was on Saturday admitted to the Grey River Hospital, suffering from an attack of meningitis, as the result lof septic poisoning. The child remains t in a very’ critical condition. The many I friends of the parents will hope for tho eventual recovery' of the little girl, who has been noted as g very’ bright child. A very happy’ function took place atthe Club Hotel on Saturday, when Mr and Airs N. Culling, who are about to leave Greymouth, were farewelled by’ a number of friends. The evening was of a musical character, musical and other items being rendered by quite a number of those present. During an interval, Air Bunny, of the hotel staff, presented the guests of the evening with handsome tokens of esteem and appreciation, which were appropriately acknowledged by’ Air Culling.
