WILL CONTESTED.

SCOTTISH LANDLORD’S PECULIAR LEGACY. TO REFORM THE WORLD [A. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Rec. January 17, at 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, January 16. There has been litigation over the will of Alexander Brown, a Scottish factor, of Kilmarnock. Brown left £lOO,OOO to an organisation styled the Noble Resolve Gospel and Temperance Mission Auxiliary, for the promotion of Temperance and the Prevention of Strikes, Wars, and Social Evils. The will was contested by his next-of-kin, on the ground that the organisation failed to constitute a trust. It was stated that Brown lived most frugally. He paid a housekeeper only fourteen shillings weekly, with board and lodging, and reluctantly granted her an additional sixpence. His annual income was between £4OOO and £5OOO. The parties have now effected a settlement.
