WAGE RISE REFUSED

A conference of representatives of the Shipbuilders and Engineering Unions and the employers agreed to adjourn for six months. tho unions'demands for an increase of sixpence per hour, on the ground of the employers' statement tbat the industry was unable to bear the cost.-

As a matter .of fact, the. 78 per cent, increase is taken over the monthly average, the 80 per cent increase is shown, if you take the average as insisted upon by the employers, that is; the six-monthly average."
