_;. . WELLINGTON, Dec .16. . i lie driver of the motor in last night's accident. Charles Joseph Clark, who runs a health sanatorium at Lyall Bay. Wellington, was arrested ' o-da.y on a charge of causing actual bodily harm t o Beck. The affair is still mysterious. Clark was the oniy occupant of the car, which went at 40 miles an hour through the most crowded and narrow thoroughfares in the city. Oie tyre flew off and the car locked from side to side, but the driver still kept on. Norman Beck and Miss S'tubbs, who were most injured, were found wedged in between the front wheels. The former was severly gashed and injured, and the latter is suffering; from a compound fra-cture of the left leg. Thomas Steel, a returned soldier, had his wooden le<r splintered and was roughly knocked about. Miss Alma Oliver was injured about the legs. These were those who were most severly handled. Five or six others £?ot bruised. Clark belongs to Lvall Bay, the son of well-known Wellington residents. Beck and Miss Stubhs worn :l -t midday to-day- in a critical condition. Both were operated upon last night. Beck regained consciousness to-day.
