CRICKET

TEST PROSPECTS.

THE WEATHER

TENNIS.

(Reed. December 16, 9.40 p.m.) i LONDON, December 15. The newspapers are devoting much i space to the first Test Match prosI pects. It was at first believed that the wicket would be unlikely to recover before Friday. Later reports mii dicate that there are prospects of a good wicket and fine weather. Cricketers generally agree that Douglas has made a good selection, though it is uncertain whether the selection: is final, or is dependent on the weather outlook on Friday morning. The newspaper prophets are cautious admitting that Australia is more I formidable they believed a month ago. It is pointed out that tho Australians are' practically tail-less as regards batting, though their bowling is more uncertain; whereas England appears more formidable in bowling, but may tail away in batting. Parkin's fate I against the New South Wales batsmen, jand also against Armstrong, is awaited with interest. Waddington's recent successes arp welcomed.

WELLINGTON, Dec. 16. Mr Bates weather report states wet and stormy* weather has prevailed in the Auckland district. Strong easterly winds, with gloomy' skies have prevailed generally. The barometer has risen slightly in the north, but is fall- ' ing steadily in the south. Present indications are for strong and variable winds, east' to northeast predominating. Expect cloudy and unsettled weather, wit hrain following generally. The barometer has a temporary, rising tendency in the north; but is due to fall again everywhere shortly.
