UNIVERSAL EIGHT HOUR DAY
HALF-MILLION MEN AFFECTED

LONDON, December 7
The danger of a railway strike has passed, the trouble having been settled by the Board of. Trade having conceded the railwaymen's demand. This was for a universal eight hour day. This rule will henceforth be applicable to all the railway wage-earners in Great Britain and Ireland, numbering half a million. \
The new time-limit will operate on the Ist of February. Other existing conditions of service are to remain unaltered fo? . the present, until the matters in dispute are decided by a committee to be set up as soon as possible. This Committee will review wages and other conditions of service of the raflwaymen 'in Great Britain..
