The ordinary meeting of the Druid's Lodge was held on Thursday evening, P. A., Bro. G. H. Blank presiding over a good gathering of brothers. A large amount of routine business was discussed, and matters arising from the recent epidemic concerning brothers were attended to, and letters of condolence forwarded to those .who have been afflicted. The matter of assisting those families in this dis-^ trict who have sustained losses and bereavements during the epidemic was discussed, and it was decided to approach the local authorities in order to have a committee set up to investigate any cases which may require financial assistance. The nomination of officers for the ensuing term was then proceeded with— the election ami installation to. take place on ' next Lodge night. ,
THE FORTHCOMING RACES
The midsummer races will be held here on the 7th and Bth January. The nominations for the gallops close on the 13th and for the trots on the 20th. The course is in excellent order and we have every reason to believe that the nominations will "be large. The racehorses Lady Middleton, Preludium, Hymettius, Tyson and Gallupin are in training locally as well as four or five tratting horses. The trainers report the HokTbika track to be in excellent order, and the going is said to be very good. The Club has ordered one of Saywell's latest starting machines of quick movement, thus ensuring smart despatcnes and less liability of horses "hung up in the tapes of the barrier.
