REPATRIATION
RETURNED SOLDIERS,
DEPUTATION TO MEMBERS

WELLINGTON, December 6
A deputation of the Returned Soldiers' Association conferred with the Members of Parliament, making the request for retrospective allowances between early married volunteers and to place them in the same position favourably as later recruits.
The 1 deputation speakers had a favourable hearing. One delegate, referring t*» the gratuity scheme of the Expeditionary forces Amendment Bill, asked the Minister whether even-handed justice would be done first to the early volunteers, before benefits were given to thos© who had already enjoyed the advantage of the later improved scales. Sir James Allen replied that he would place the matter before the Cabinet.
j A STEONG PEOTEST.
CHRISTCHURCH, December 6
A strong protest is being made by the North Canterbury Repatriation League against the hurried passing of the Repatriation toill suggested in the skeleton lines for the Bill. They approved of the whole scheme being under civilian control, and free from military influence.
