MOTION OF SUPPORT CARRIED \ HOKITIKA. April 19. The Acting-Prime Minister and the Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald visited Hokitika to-day and although only short notice was given the Tpwn Hall was packed. The County Chairman presided and short addresses were given by the Ministers. Sir James Allen referring- to the cause of the Ministers' visit to the Coast said that he and his colleague had addressed the miners in many parts' of the district and the miners were taking;., a. secret I ballot on .the question of resuming work. The Government would be delighted if the men went back, but if an adverse vote were carried the Government would do its duty. The speakers both referred to the part New Zealand is playing in the war and affirmed that the Government was determined to see that the Military Service Act was carried out. The following- motion was carried unanimously, the audience cheering and sinking- the National Antnem : — "That this meeting- pledges itself to support the National Government in giving- effect to any measures that nay be deemed necessary to deal with :he present national crisis."
