FURTHER DETAILS OF ATTACK.
FROM THE HIGH COMMIotIDNER. The High Commissioner reports from KHidon, under date October 25tK, 4.45 .m., as follows : — The French yesterday gained an imortant success in the Champagne district, 'he Germans hud retained a very strongly rganised salient in advance of their seond positions, which had resisted preious attacks. This salient is on the iiorlieni slopes of Hill 196, and very imnrtfint works were joined by cable to La ourtine, which the French have just caried by main force. The works consisted f four lines of trenches connected Avith nderground tunnels and dug-outs of a »igth of twelve hundred metres and a epth of two hundred a,ud fifty metres, he position was captured after stubborn 2sistan.ee and completely occupied at the lose of the day. Tlig German losses ere serious. They left 200 prisoners beuiging to three different divisions.
