POLLARD'S PICTURES

Magnificent setting, admirable acting and a quaint story, made "me Best Man," the star feature of last night 's new programme, one of themost attractive dramatic offerings seen here for some time. The large audi, ence present followed the original and coherent plot, with the deepest interest. The star picture was supported by an excellent collection of wellvaried subjects. This fine bill will be repeated to-night.. MATINEE TO-DAY. Mr Pollard will give another of his popular matinees to-day, commencing at 2.30, when a programme specially selected to suit old and young will be screened. The star will be the great special drama. "The Lure of the | Green Table," in which the vice of gambling is shown with all its at. tendant disasters. The other pictures are a Vitagraph drama, "The Man Who Knew," a Pathe-colour educational film, "The Sugar Industry," a Kalem comedy, "Ham the Iceman," and two . new Keystone farces, ' ' The Noise of Bombs" and "Only a Farmer's Daughter:" The usual Sunday display will be given to-morrow, for which a special programme is being selected. The star feature is a Lubin drama of real life entitled, "When Honour Awakes." It is the story of two young people's fight for success, beautifully told, and .ending delightfully happy. It will be supported by a drama entitled "Lucy's Elopement" a new "Topical Budget," and the Ilth instalment of the thrilling serial dra. ma, "The Master Key." This chapter is as full of mystery and excitement as any of those that have preceded it.. This part traces one stage further the eventful search for the Indian idol in which is concealed the secret of the missing lode of gold. Wilkerson, not knowing that the idol contains the secret of which he is in search, allows it to pass out of his hands; but he finds that Dore is en. quiring for it, and he therefore carefully follows all Dore's movements. A Hindu pedlar gets the treasured idol from a pawnshop, and, as he gazes upon it, a series of dissolving pictures appear, revealing the past history of the image and how it had come to be stolen from the place in the temple. The picture closes with Ruth and Dore in the pawnshop, hot on the trail of the image, but being blocked by the shopkeeper, who wishes to secure it again for himself.
