A FRUITLESS ATTACK.
GERMANS' HEAVY LOSSES
PARIS, October 20. A communique states: Lnrge enemy forces east of jUnims took the offensive on -a 10-kilometre &€»£ between Lapoinpelle and Prosnes. They were completely defeated. The attack was most carefully prepared with a prolonged artillery bombardment accompanied by chlorine gas. The enemy at the outset penetrated some parts of our front line but counter-at-tacks were immediately launched and the enemy driven out at almost every point. A. vigorous counter offensive in the afternoon ejected the last of the enemy, who were thus thrown back completely, suffering heavy loss. It was a fruitless., attack.-
