MONTHLY MEETING

The ordinary meeting' of the above was held at the. Council Chambers yesterday afternoon : — Present : P. Ryder esq., (Chair), Crs R. Larkin, J. Ryall, A. Blair, J. McCarthy, J. Irving, B. Finn, J. Baybutt and M. Hannan. TENDERS FOR WORKS. The following tenders were dpencd and dealt with: — KOKIRI-MOANA ROAD. Section No. 4. J. Burns £295 ; Power Bros £323 ; John Gillon £343Cr Ryall moved that, no tender be accepted, on account of their being over the Engineer's estimate. . This was seconded by Cr Blair and carried. SEVEN MILE TO BARRYTOWN ROAD —Section No. 4. James Burke £123; W. J. B. Duffy (informal) £112, John F. Anderson £88 14s, Harry P. Price £141. On the motion of Cr Ryall seconded by Cr Finn, J. F. Anderson's tender was accepted. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Acting' Under-Secretary, Public Works Department, referring to "votes provided on the Public Works Estimates, and statins" that the sums would not be available for such time as satisfactory arrangements had been made for the necessary loan for public works. From the Minister of Public Works, stating that he could not see his way to increase the. amount on Public Works Estimate for Grey ValleyTaramakau Road. — Received. From the Under-Secretary Mines Department, regarding prospecting subsidy to Wilson, Reinhammer and party, Mosquito Creek,. Nobles. — Received. From the Hon. Minister of Mines (W. D. S. Mac Donald) regarding vote for Waipuna Road, and stating that 3 the application would have due consideration. — Received. From the Department of Agriculture, Christchurch, regarding satistics, and asking to be furnished with a list of settlers owning 20 acres and over.— Received. - ■■ , The Chairman moved that a reply be sent that they had the information already at hand. This was seconded by Cr Ryall and carried. From the Under-Secretary Mines Department, regarding" Ferry Reserve section 6, Block t, Ahaura Survey dis trict stating that the land was vested in the Grey County Council as n ferry reserve, and that nothing would be done without the Council's consent. — Received. 1 From J. Hargreaves regarding a letter from the Under-Secretary for Mines respecting- a special dredging" claim for the Ahaura Dredging" Company, and stating that there had been no one living" on the ground. Cr Baybutt moved that the consent of this ' Council be given to the application. , This was seconded by Cr Larkin and carried. From the Alliance Assurance Company regarding" fire at P. Roger's residence, Blackball, stating that the company was in no way interested in the fire. — Received. From a ratepayer, asking for an extension of time to pay rates. — Received. On the motion of the Chairman it was resolved that the ratepayer be'in-fqi.-m.ed that he must come and inter \ievv the Clerk or a summons would be issued. From P. C. Webb, M.P., stating that an additional £600 had been voted for Ten Mile Road. — Received. Cr. Ryall moved that the Engineer be asked to approach the Government to have the vote spent immediately. From Joseph Porter, No Town, making application for Government prospecting- subsidy. — Received. Cr McCarthy moved that the letter be sent on to the Mines Department. This was seconded by Cr Larkin and. carried. From VV. Morgan Greenstone, claiming for hire of boat on Lake Brunner in 1913, voucher for which was passed in the the name of Wrri. Campbell.— Received. — The Chairman moved that a new voucher be made out for W. Morgan. Cr Blair second- the motion which' was. carried. From James F. White, Ahaura, with reference to stray cattle nuisance stating that something would haye -to be done for the 'safety of motorists.— Received. • ■;; ' Cr Baybutt stated that the were asked to take action. The Engineer stated that,, in the roadman's conditions it was mentioned that notice of wandermg'/ cattle had to be reported to him.' Cr. Ryall moved' that Inspector Phair be asked to see that the police take action regarding the wandering .cattle and.: pig- nuisance m the; . coun.- .:

This was seconded by Cr Baybutt and carried. From W. H. Wheeler, with reference to culvert at Rotomahu, and enclosing a rough sketch plan, and asking the Council to supply condemned sleepers fqr. the culverts. — Received and referred .to the Engineer. From Supehintendent State Advances Office, stating that an Act had been passed validating Council pro-' ceedings in raising loan for C'obden bridge. Cr Hannan stated that he personally wrote to Sir Joseph Ward on the matter and it was Sir Joseph who had got the matter cleaned up. If any thanks were to be given it was Sir Joseph Ward who should receive same. Cr Ryall moved that this Council by letter, thank Sir Joseph Ward for the action he had taken in getting a clause put through validating- the Council's proceedings. This was seconded by Cr Finn tnd carried. Moved by Cr. Hannan and seconded by Cr. Ryall, that a special rate be struck to put the matter of the Cobden Bridge advance in order. — Re ceived. From the Chief Postmaster, regarding- telephonic communication with coal mines at Dunollie. It was resolved that the Chairman and Cr. Ryall interview the Chief Postmaster regarding the matter. From Guinness and Kitchingham, forwarding" account foj- lejral Avork in connection Avith Totara Flat Pound site. — Referred to Financial Commit- 1 tee. Cr. Baybutt moved that now that the deeds Avere complete that the engineer be authorised to have the. section cleared and, the pound erected. : Cr Ryall sdconded v the motion which was carried. , From Bert Gibbie, with, reference to road at C'arrierons. as the one up the river is completly washed away. Cr Finn said the road was badly needed. Cr Irving moved and the Chairman seconded, that the matter be left in the hands of the Engineer. — Carried. The Clerk submitted a report- regarding the purchase of a manual engine for the Cobden Fire Brigade. It was resolved that the Grey Fire Board be asked to put a price on the manual engine in their possession if they were prepared to sell, the Clerk have power to purchase same — Carried. . From N. Daly asking- permission 'to take a tramway across the. road. — Granted with the usual conditions. . NOTICE OF, MOTION. Cr. Finn moved, in. accordance with notice of motion, that the Engineer be instructed to have the Irishman'sLake Brunner track, put in a proper The Chairman seconded the motion slate of repair, pro forma.
