The following telegrams, _which speak for themselves, were despatched from Greymouth to-day : — "The Minister of Railways, Wellington. — The Council at its meeting last night instructed me to bring under your notice promise made by you to establish daily train service between Christchurch and West Coast during the month of November, and to urge upon you the importance of having^ the service started by Labor Day, 26th ir.st., to give residents of Canterbury an opportunity of visiting the Coast during Carnival Week, thereby assisting to increase profits from races and other entertainments, which are being devoted to the Patriotic Fund." "The Minister of Railways, Wellington. — The Patriotic Committee 3 at a meeting I held this morning, decided to request you to inaugurate daily train service between Christchurch and West Coast on October 26th t as racing clubs at Greymouth are donating profits of meetings to the Patriotic Fund. — G. E. Perkins, Chairman Patriotic Fund." "Hon. Mr Hevries Minister of Railways, Wellington.— Chamber of Commerce respectfully ask you to consider your promise, made in May to open daily service to Christchurch early in. Two days trotting and two days gallops commence here on Labor Day, 26th inst. ? and, in addition to 100 guineas already donated by our Club to the War Fund, it nas been decided to hand over all profits made at the coming meeting to same fund. If daily service commenced Labor Day our opinion is that it would probably attract visitors from Canterbury, thereby increasing the success of the meeting. The Club trusts youwill be able to do this. — M. Hannan, President Greymouth Jockey Club." "The Minister of Railways, Wellington. —Committee Grey Trotting Club desire me telegraph you supporting Borough Council's application for daily service between Christchurch and Greymouth to commence on 26th inst- If this service comes into force, facilities for travelling will materially assist Club's patrons* in getting to and from here and will increase traffic considerably. — Felix Campbell, President."'
