WRECK OF THE KAIRAKI

DIVING WORK POSTPONED. It was intnded that the Government steamer Hinemoa should proceed lo the scenq of the Kairaki wreck yesterday morning, with diver and diving equipment, in an endeavour to recover if possible, the bodies of at least some of the men who went down with the steamer. The weather proved unfavourable, however, the sea being too rough to permit of diving operations, and the Hinemoa remained in port. It was possible that she might have taken a run out to the spot during the afternoon to ascertain the exact conditions there, but this idea had to be abandoned owing to a heavy sea on the bar. As soon as the sea conditions permit this special mission of the Hinemoa will be undertaken. "
