V ' , (Red. 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 23. Mr Acchibold, president of the Standard Oil. .Company,; in giving evidence before the 'ICampaagn iContribuitians -Committee, said that Mr Theo. Roosevelt had tried extortion dulling his second administration because the Trust failed to contribute enough money towards his campaign. Witness declared that Mr Roosevelt's attacks on ithe Standard Oil Company directly resulted in the death of Mr Henry ißodgers, Henry: Gifford, and two of the directors of the company. Mr Archbold admitted (that the company coutrbutedi £25,000' towards the Presidential campaign in 1904. ROOSEVELT'S DENIAL OF ALLEGATIONS. Mr Theo. Roosevelt has denied Mr Archibald's charges in. Toto. Het knew .nothing of any contribution from .the Standard Oil Trust.. ■Mr! Theo.. RoosevelS added that Mr Archbold had made many appeals to him riot to prosecute the Standard Oil Trust.
