Martin Joyce, an old offender, en baturday was fined £5 or in default one month's imprisonment with iiard laDour for assaulting a woman named Ellen Parker. The assault was a sequel to a drunken brawl, accused 'hajviinig brought six ibottes of beer and two bottles of whisky to Ashburton from the license area and consumed it here on the premises of a /tinsmith named Chayman, for whom the woman Barker is housekeeper. Accused decided to go to gaol. .
