AN ELECTION PETITION.
DARGAVILLE, Dec q The- electoral petition was heard before Mr Dwyer, S.M., against the election of councillors Field (Maungaru Riding) and Holdson (County) on the ground that the roll was improperly made and persons were disfranchised. The deputy left the booth unguarded several times. Mr R: J. Coates- represented Edwin Harding and nine other petitioners. Mi E. T. Field opposed personally. Mr Hcycs, County solicitor, watched the proceedings. TKe evidence showed that the County clerk ommitted to file the 1907-8 roll, and added 13 names deleted from the No 2 roll used not pased by the magistrate. There were seven other witnesses. The Magistrate upset the elec tion and granted costs 14s aga.nst Field and the returning officer.
