Nelson College Enquiry
(per press association-) NEL e ON, Dec 16. At the enquiry re the College fire the jury returned the following verdict :- That in the opinion of the jury the fire on December 7th which destroyed the Nelson Boys College was caused by the use of fire for removing paint from tha old building. They attached the following riders — 1. That in the opinion of the jury the orginisation at the College was excellent. 2. That the means for extinguishing the fire were inadequate. 3. '' hat had there been a better pressure of water in all probability the building would have been saved. 4. That the headmaster and assistants did all in their power to put the fire out. 5. That fire was used to remove paint without the knowledge or consent of either the College Governors or Mr E T Savage, the contractor.
