Grey Jockey Club
An adjourned meeting of the Committee of the Club was held at the Albion Hot-el last evening. Present — Messrs Petrie (Chairman), Walton, Ponsonby, Bignell, M'Carthy, Claughesy, Yarrall, M'Kay, Sheedy and Hannan. Mr Claughesy moved "That the resolution making the distances of the Greymcuth Cup and Grey Valley Handicap l£ mile and one mile and a furlong be rescinded with the view of making same H mile and 1J mile respectively." He used argument to show how inconsistent it was to fix the distances at one meeting and then alter it at the nextMr Sheedy supported the motion. Mr M'Kay reviewed the practice of the Club in this matter and thought that the original proposal should be given a trial. # Mr Hannan took a similar view. The resolution regarding the Cup was rescinded and the amendmentagreed toThe resolution regarding the second part of the motion was also agreed to. The application of John Delaney for a jockey's license, adjourned from last meeting, again came up. Mr Sheedy spoke strongly in favour of granting the license, especially as they had already granted him a license, and as ho had behaved himself since then in the most exemplary manner. Mr Hannan seconded, and urged that on the circumstances of the case tlKre ought tc be no reason why he should not be granted a license this year, inasmuch as they had granted him a license last year, and he had done nothing since to forfeit his license. After a review cf all the facts the license was granted without a dissentant.
