Fire at Riversdale.

(per press association.) Invercargill, Jan 26. By a fire at Riversdale on Sunday afternoon heavy losses were sustaned. It began in the ceiling over a be J room in Gee's Hotel, through which the kitchen chimney passed. The house, containing 25 rooms, with m st of the furniture were destroyed. A stroug breeze carried the flames across a gap and D Manson's stoic, bakery, and dwelling wpre also destroyed. M Lawlor's butchery perishe I. Gee's insurance on the building was — in the Norwick Union, L 750 ; Sun, L 250. The furniture in the South British was L2OO, Commercial Union L75 ; Norwich Union L 225. Ib is estimated that the loss over insurance is LI, OOO, Manson's stock (Ll,000,) the building aud mmiture LBo©, It is believed in the Royal office. He estimates the loss at from twelve to fifteen hundred, L6oo worth ot new stock being recently received. Lawlor had an insurance of L 250 in the National, but his loss is not great.
