A Mysterious Fire
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) : InvercakgiliL, Jan 24. ! A fire occurred about spm in the 'woodea portion of the block known as Neil% '-See Street, and destroyed most of the stock. O Kier nan's upholstering i place was also damaged. The premises of Burrell, photographer, aud the stock of .Bernatort, tailor, suffered. Kiernan had just brought in some flax fibre which had been drying in the yard. This was stored und&.v the stair and the returned workmen on the top flat immediately saw flames envelope the stairs, and going down saw the flax ablaze. They got most of it outside, lbut the walls were afire and the place guti ;e«L His stock was insured for L2OO in the New Zoaland office and valued at L3OO. The furniture, werth about L4O, was; saved. Kiernan does not sm»ke in the- w*iksh«p, and cannot account for the. fire. No other insurance is ascertained. Neil's herbalist shop escaped.
