COLONIAL WINES QUESTION

[per press association.]

[by electric telegraph copyright.]

(Received April 23, at 4 40 p m.)

LondOxV, April 22,

In the House of Commons Sir M. Hicks Beach said that the exemption of colonial wines would involve on the present consumption a loss of L 20,000 yearly. He feared that the preferential treatment of colonial wines would result in foreign wine • being shipped to the colonies and re-exported to Britain, thus largely increasing the loss. Sir M Hicks Beach receives a deputation of the Agents-General on the subject next Tuesday.
