PAPAROA COAL FIELD.

♦ (to the editor.) Sir, — It ia not necessary for me to go Into all the points in your leader on the above subject, in the Argus of the 10th inst. I cannot speak for the Cobden and Coal Company and regret that none of the principal shareholders are here to reply for the Point Elizabeth Company. That compauy has been formed, registered, and prepared to open up the mine, and make the branch railway so soon as the main line is sufficiently advanced to justify a commencement being made. Further, a considerable sum of money has been lodged in the bank nearly two years for that purpose, and more will be forthcoming when required. The main part of the blame must rest with the Railway Commissioners, who strangled the project when there was every prospect of the work being commenced with little or no delay. Now, the construction of the railway Is In the hands of the Cobden and Ooal Creek Company, who are bound to commence work within a given period. The time has not elapsed. I cannot conclude without taking exception "to the epithets applied to the shareholders. They are in bad taste, and not applicable to the shareholders In the Point Elizabeth Coal Company.— l am, &c, G. S. Smth. Greyraonth, February 11.
