* (per press' association). Christchurch, February 10. The Presbyterian General Assembly opened at St Andrews Church. The ißev C. Ogg delivered an address mainly n advocacy of promoting Home Missions in sparsely pspulated districts, and more concentrated and practical training for student evangelists. He approved of the suggestion that there should be a service book for the Presbyterian Church which Ministers might rise at their option. Forty-two entries have been received for the Christchurch regatta on February ( 17th. j The wrestling match, 5 styles, between Duncan Ross and Geo. Robinson for L 25 aside at the Theatre to-night, resulted in a draw. Robinson won the American side hold and Cumberland. Ross won the Catch-as -catch-can and Graceo Roman. The Collar and Elbow was drawn. Timaru, February 11. In the Supreme Court the Grand Jury i found true bills in all the case*. Before

they were discharged they made a presentment protesting against the closing of the Timaru prison as unfair to prisoners in custody for trial. The importance of the town and district warranted the continuance of the institution. Jean Charl, an aged Frenchman, an old offender, received three years for breaking into and stealing from a shop at Oamaru. Halon Olsinj a sailor, pleaded guilty to stabbing a shipmate, and sentence was deferred, , Henry Clark, a fireman on board the ss Rangatira . was acquitted on the charge of stealing from the person. The Levels road board so far this season have paid L 159 odd for small birds' eggs and heads. Wellington, February 11. In the Divorce Court this morning Hpnora Kathleen Godden applied for dissolution of marriage witn Dajavers Stephen Godden on the grounds of cruelty and adultery. Respondent who was formerly engaged in the Public Works Department here, is now in Melbourne, and the Chief Justice granted a, decree nisi with costs against him.
