Some discussion emued on the third clause, Cr Campbell moving that advice of the borough .Solicitor be obtained a3 to the power of , the council to do what wa3 proposed. — Or Kilgour combated this-, view. He- saw no necessity for doing so; 1 as the council was not partIng with any rights whatever. — Or Lahman said that tho adoption of the clause could do no harm whatever. The matter would have to come before the council again, when they could consider the matter more fully. Tha '.lause wua adopted.

The reporb as a whole was then adopted*

The question of cleaning out the drain opposite Mr F. M'Gregor's property was referred to the public works committee to carry out-. The following tenders for the formation of Cowper street were opened and dealt with :— O'Donnell and Lutgens— £42 from river bed, and £27 from Marsden road. Thos. O'Donnell— £4B from river bed, and £32 from Marsden road. C. O'Brien— £3B 5a from river bed, and £27 10a from Marsden road. The tender of O'Donnell and Lutgens was accepted. Cr Campbell drew the attention of the council to the charges made in connection with plots of ground in the cemetery, which he maintained were beyond the provisions of the cemetery by-laws. He hoped that the council would consider the whole qaestion, as the Town Clerk was pursuing a practice he was not justified in doing. He hoped the council would onae for all deal with this matter and place it on a proper basis. After some little dissuasion it was resolved to refer the matter to the cemetery committee to report upon at next meeting. Thia concluded the business, and the council was adjourned to this day three weeks. j
