Auckland, April 26. The firat day's racing of the Autumn Meeting, at EllersHe, took place to-day. There was splendid weather. Present, 6000 and the Governor and suite. tradesmen's plate handicap, 100 soys. ; 1 mile 240 yds. Wapiti 1 Victory 2 Friendship 3 Betting but little and in favor of Friendship. 6to 4 on field. 2to 1 againsFriendship and Libeller. Victory was the first away. He led out of the straight, the others in company close handy. At the cutting Victory was beaten and the field closing up. Waipiti ran through his h orses with ease and led into the straight, winning as he liked by ten lengths. Time, 2min. 1 sec. mares' produce stakes, 200 soys. — six furlongs. Brigadier 1 Howitzer 2 Reproach ... 3 Ricochet, Mora, and Lady Mora also ran. Betting — 6 to 4on the field, Reproach being the favorite. There was a fair start. Howitzer was the first away, with Reproach and Brigadier next. At the cutting Reproach held command, but Brigadier was here called upon and passing Howitzer challenged Reproach, all under the whip. Brigadier led into the straight, winning easily by three lengths, Howitzer beating Reproach by a bare nose. Time, lmin. 18fsecs. EASTER HANDICAP, 300 soya. — If miles. Clogs ... 1 Cinderella 2 Necklape 3 Necklace, Tetford, Victoria, Mystery, and Armourer also ran. Betting — 3 to 1 against Necklace, 4 to 1 Wapiti and Tetford, 5 to 1 Victoria, 6 to 1 Mystery, 7to 1 Cinderella. A good start was effected. Tetford went away and led into the straight, Cinderella second, Mystery third. Tettord cut out the running till the back of the course was reached, but here Clogs took the lead, the field closing up. Going through the cutting Wapiti and Victoria closed with the leaders. Clogs led into the straight, winning by three lengths from Cinderella, Wapiti, a good third. * HURDLE RACE HANDICAP, Of 100 soys; 2£ miles. Belle 1 Guy Fawks , 2 Mangahone ... 3 Macaroni, Miss Griffiths, Minute, Miss Agnes, and Auctioneer also ran. Betting was nominal, the racs being an open one. 2 to 1 on field, Macaroni being favorite. Guyfawks led ai the start, Macaroni and Auctioneer next, but in the cutting the latter assumed command into the straight, Mangahone second. There was little or no change in this order till going along the back, where Guyfawks, Mangahone, Belle, and Auctioneer ran away from the field. A great raceensued, Belle winning by two lengths. Time, 4min. 31secs. belling race.— so soys ; 1 mile. Orphan 1 Castashore ... ... ... 2 Yubaßill 3 Little or no betting. Amie, Larrikin, Octopus, Blarney, Kalo, Rosewood, and Rewi also ran. Blarney went to the front. Rewi' was left at the post. A good race ensued. On entering the straight all were in a line under the whip. Orphan came away at the finish and won by a length from Castashore, Yuba Bill a good third, and the rest in a cluster. Time, 2min. 4secs. GREAT NORTHERN ST. LEGKR. — 200 SOYS J 1 mile 6 furlongs 132 yards. Derringer and Waitiri were the only entries. There was no betting. Derringer led once round, when Waitiri went to the front and won as she liked. Time, 3min. 19|secs.
