Melbourne, November 27. -Two men were struck dead by lightning while sheltering under a tree at Ballarat. Mr J. B. Beere, Danish Consul, and Mr Goldsborough, the well known broker, are tying dangerously ill. . At a meeting of the conference between the representatives of the Employees Union and Trade Hall, it was resolved to appoint a Board to deal with all future difficulties.
Sydney, November 27. Owing to the number of leaks discovered in the pipes, the temporary water supply scheme remains incomplete, but repairs are to be effected as soon as possible. In the meantime 1 no rain has fallen, and the water in the Botany dams is getting very low. Some parts of the country are in a wretched condition owing to the want of rain, and cattle are dying in all directions for want of feed. Great satisfaction is felt in the safety of the geographical party, and immediate stops were to be taken to recall the Opal, and also the party that started from Thursday Island. It seems that the party ware unaware of the rumor concerning them until their arrival at Thursday Island. The rumor apparently arose from the fact that when the party were attacked two" natives managed to get away, and these reported that the whole party was surrounded and killed. All the party are well. They are very reticent- as to their discoveries, but these were thought not to amount to much, as they are unable to penetrate far from the banks of the Fly ,River, owing to the dense scrub. The party expect, to reach Sydney next Wednesday^ The'atrike at the Co-operative Colliery, Newcastle, still continues, the miners insisting, on the proprietors putting down anutihex shaft before they commence work. Adelaide. The Council has carried~» motion in favor of holding a public Exhibition,-but, the Assembly negatived it by a large majority. Tiie Assembly has agreed to offer a reward of £1000 to discover a cure for red rust.
