Christohuroh, Jan. 16. At a meeting at Kaiapoi the Farmers' Club decided to have a trial of reapers and binders this year. Sixteen members have enrolled into the Railway "Volunteer Fire Brigade. The rainfall on Monday and Tuesday at Christchurch registered 2 '14 inches. A rifle match between civilians and engineers will be fired on Saturday week. _ Madame Charbonnet, pianist, has arrived here, and will give two concerts Qn the 23rd and 27th. I The prize meeting of the Canterbury Rifle Association will be held on the 30th January. The statistics of the., grain carried on the Christchurch railway amounts ;o 143,614 tons during the season. Five seamen having deserted from tie barque Charles Deering, from New York, the master has offered L 2 per man f6r their arrest. j
