Watson still remained at the wicket, having made 52 in first-rate style and without having given a chance. The following is the Canterbury score as far as their second innings has gone.

THIS DAY. More beautiful weather for cricket than it was this morning it would be difficult to imagine. At noon punctually the Auckland men went out into the field, showing the Canterbury men an exceedingly good example. Watson, with 52 to his credit, was at one wicket, and Ollivier at the other, the latter having a man to run for him. Robinson bowled one ball to finish an uncompleted over, and Lankham bowled a maiden. Gill then took up the bowling from the north end, and Ollivier cut him for one. In the next over of Lankham, Ollivier was missed in the slips. After a few singles Watson’s time had arrived. In hitting at one of Gill’s he sent it into the slips where it was secured very neatly by Lankham. His innings of 52 was an excellent performance in every way, being without a chance. 158 —C—s2. Harman now came to the wicket, and hit Gill prettily to the on for a single. In the next over, however, he put one from Lankham in the slips which Arneil took with one hand. 159 —7 —l. Barnes was the next man in, and poked Gill away to leg for 3, and Lankham to fine leg for 2. But the latter revenged himself by levelling his stumps the next ball—l 65 —B—s.8—5. Frith now appeared at the wicket, but was bowled in the first over he received from Lankham — 165—9—0. Fuller, the last man, next came to the wickets. Ollivier lifted Gill for 4 through the boundary, and drove him for;2 —170 up. Fuller next cut Lankham for 3, and the next over Ollivier drove Lankham finely for 5. Puller made one to leg oil the same bowler—lßo up. Fuller, however, the next over skyed one from Gill, which was secured by mid-on. The innings thus closed for a total of ISO. Ollivier carried out his bat for a wellearned 13. The last five wickets of Canterbury had fallen in forty-five minutes for 25 runs. The following is the score :

from Frith, and howled a maiden. Testro cut Fuller for 2. After two singles Testro again cut Fuller for 2—CO up. The playnow was very steady, until at last Fuller gave place to Barnes. O’Brien got Ashby away for 4 to leg, and 70 appeared on the board. O’Brien hit Barnes for 3, Frith now relieving Ashby at the north end. From the next over of Barnes 4 were credited to Testro.
