At the meeting of the Central Board of Health to consider what further precautionary measures were necessary in view of the danger of small pox being introduced from Sydney, some surprise was felt that no later telegraphic intelligence had been received on the subject from Sydney, the matter being one of such grave importance to the public interest. A letter was read from the Mayor of Auckland, pointing out that neither tho City Council nor Harbor Board could efficiently exercise the functions of a Local Board of Health under section 6, inasmuch as the Council had no jurisdiction over the harbor and the Harbor Board had none over the Quarantine Island. The president stated, moreover, that the Government were advised that the Harbor Board did not come under the category of a local Board as capable of being a local Board of Health. After due consideration the Central Board decided to act under the 14th section of the Act, and as there was no existing local body having the necessary extent of jurisdiction to appoint throe persons to be a local Board of Health. Accordingly tho Mayor of Auckland, the chairman of the Harbor Board, and the harbor-master of the port were appointed with full jurisdiction over the city, harbor, and quarantine island. It was further resolved to make similar appointments at each of the ports where vessels trade from Sydney, tho Mayor, harbor-master, and chairman of the Harbor Board in each case forming the local Board of Health.

[from the own correspondent of the “ press. ”j WELLINGTON, June 21. Trio standing committee of tho Wellington Diocesan Synod held a special mooting to consider tho Bill for the incorporation of the Church of England Trusts, to be introduced to Parliament. Members expressed strong disapproval of the Bill, especially tho Bishop, and a resolution was unanimously carried that the Bill was not drafted on the linos laid down by tho General Synod last session, and expressing the opinion that the Bill should not bo introduced into Parliament until it had boon submitted to another meeting of the General Synod. It transpired that Mr Pitt, who was one of tho commission appointed by tho General Synod at last year’s Christchurch session to draw up the Bill, has never even seen it. Strong opposition will be offered to it in Parliament on the above and other grounds, as the measure is considered in many respects objectionable.
