RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual meeting of this Council was held on Friday evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr Johnston), Ors, Burt, Stephens, Ellis, Orothers, and Gulliver. Or, Good absent through indisposition. Correspondence was received from the Collector of Customs, rotifying payment to Bank re transfer of Club Hotel license. From Mr Golding, asking for remission of rates. Agreed to. From the Charitable Aid Board, with cheque £1 6s for allowances, and same with allowance to Vaughan, £l. The residents of Good street petitioned for repairs, which were agreed to be done. From Messrs Matson, Buss and Co,, with account of sale of old timber, From the returning officer (Mr J. J. Robinson), reporting that Messrs Boss and Otapman were returned as auditors. From J. Ooulson, asking for pecuniary help. Referred to the Charitable Aid Board. From the Kaiapoi Board of Health, apologising for omission in asking the Council to its late conference re infectious diseases, and enclosing copy of resolutions passed, as proposed insertioss in Public Health Act. Or. Ellis proposed—" That extra pipes be put down in William street under supervision of the works committee.” Carried. Cr. Burt proposed that the boulders lying by the railway station and at the shingle pit be broken up, the work to be offered to residents of the borough wanting employment at 3s per yard." Carried, Besolred, to shingle footpath on east side of Ashley street. The Or. balance at the Bank was reported to bo £209 18s Id. Accounts amomting to £l4l 8s 6d wore passed for paynent. The asphalting contract for six chains of footpath was now complete and approved The gas question was then discussed. Toe report of Messrs Roberts and
Anderson, who were deputed to collect infor mation as to the public feeling on the subject was not considered encouraging; further information was, however, deemed necessary. The question of handing oyer the portion of reserve used for a racecourse as a racecourse only was also discussed, but no decision was arrived at. Tender* re leasing the borough reserve at Methven were opened, and that of Mr D. MoKendry, at 5s 6d per acre for fourteen years, was accepted. The Council then adjourned.
