Local OptionIn tho House of Commons to-day, a motion re-affirming the principle of local option in connection with the licensing laws was, after a lengthy debate, carried on a division by a majority of 42. The Markets. Consols are unchanged at IOOf. New Zealand 5 per cent. 10-40 loan, 105; New Zealand 5 per cent. 1889 loan, 105 ; Now Zealand 4| per cent, loan, 103. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, 48s 6d ; New Zealand wheat, 45s 6d; Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 345; Australian tallow —best beef, 34s 6d; best mutton, 36s 6d. At the wool sales to-day 10,600 bales were catalogued, and a firmer demand was experienced. Prices for greasy wool are about id higher; greasy crossbreds and coarse wools rule about the same prices as in the last sales. The Sunday Question. In the House of Commons to-day a Bill providing for the closing of publichouses in Wales on Sundays was read a third time and passed. CONSTANTINOPLE, June 15. The Tunisian Question. The Porte has issued a circular to the Powers notifying that it will not recognise French protection of Tunisians residing in Turkish territory and under the Ottoman rule. CAPETOWN, June 15. The Basntos. Telegrams are to hand reporting that tho Basntos have paid the fine which was levied upon them by the Cape Government, in accordance with the terms of peace agreed to in April last. NEW TOR£, June 15. The CropsIn nearly all the American wheatgrowing districts, tho wheat crops this season are very backward.
