At Wanganui an unsuccessful attempt was made yesterday morning to get the Arthur Wakefield off the spit. By direction she was then lightened, and the anchors placed further out. There being not much sea last evening she was hove to the edge of the channel, and the Clyde then towed her inside the heads. The estimated value of the cargo is £2500 to £3OOO, which is insured in the same office as the vessel. She has had a severe humping, but as yet no material damage has been ascertained. It is probable that there will be a general average claim.

An audacious robbery was committed last night at the Anchor Line Shipping Co.’s office, of a packet containing £265, which was left on top of a safe. It was found that the window had been left unfastened.
