THE VISIT OF THE BISHOP OF CHRISTCHURCH TO ENGLAND.

SIE, —I was greatly surprised to see in your issue of the 9th inst., a paragraph £0 the effect that a committee had been formed to make certain arrangements to provide for the expenses of the Bishop’s trip to England. I gegret much to find that members of the Glua-ch of England have consented to gather up the threepences and sixpences of our illpaid classes of men for such an unnecessary project. As it is well known to us members of the Church of Fn ;land that we are obliged to listen nearly every other Sunday to the begging sermons of our parsons towards some object or other, ani now we are troubled with requests to assist the Bishop of Christchurch home to England and back, fop all the good it may do us here is quite beyond my reasoning. J. must say, Sir, most emphatically, that as a member of the Church of England I feel ashamed to see that we should be asked in the way of charity to give towards such a project. If it be ftn? some object in the way of a charitable mission to some distant part I would say nothing, but I must make my voice heard about such an unnecessary waste of the money which is to be begged from the poor members of the Church of England her*. It seems hardly known among most Churchmen that the diocese of thy Church of England here has vast properties, worth thousands of pounds.
