CANADIAN WOMAN’S COMPLAINT AG A INST AUSTRALIA. “TOO OLD; NOT RICH ENOUGH” (Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 15. “They told me I was too old and not rich enough,” said Miss J. Donfc.rth, of Montreal (Canada), who returned to New Zealand yesterday by tho Wanganuella. She was the! Avoman stated in the cabled reports to have bet'n refused permission to land at Sydney -except subject to certain conditions which slur declined to accept. She stated in an .interview on arrival at. Wellington that she was unfamiliar' with tho Australian immigration laws, and did not .understand why she had not been allowed to land. “Maybe someone spoke against mo,” she) said. “L have always led an uurcproachful l-lo.”

Miss Denforth stated, that she. had boon given to understand that it was necessary to. put down £2OO to enter Australia and more than that. She received £SO monthly under an uncle’s will and, in addition, had privato capital. She had come out.from Canada to settle in a country with a warm climate. She had spent Christmas and Netv Year at Honolulu, but, as she did not feel so well there she camo on to Auckland and later proceeded to Sydney on the Wanganella’s last trip.
