KILLED IN STREET

MAN knocked down by car, : i FATALITY !N UPPER GLADSTONE ROAD <s, VICTIM BELIEVED TO BE ARERO RESIDENT. A distressing fatality occurred in Upper Gladstone road between Bloomfield road and Mill road about 8.20 last evening, a middle aged man being struck by a car and dying almost instantly. The driver of the car was Mr. Ivor Stevens, of 7 Salisbury Road. Hei bad four passengers. It is not known how the victim who uas crossing the road came .to be struck, but the driver told tlio police be did not see him until it was too iatc to avoid the accident.

As far as can bo gathered, the man was struck by the left mudguard and was thown on the back of his head. Dr. Augell, who was called to the scene, expressed tho opinion that death must have occurred almost instantaneously.

A wages tax book found on the- body gave the name “C. Tracey, Arcro P. 0.” and it is believed the victim was a returned soldier.
