Auckland yesterday tendered u civic farewell to H.M.S. Dunedin, formerly the flagship of the Mkv Zealand Division of the .Royal Na~ vy ,which sails for England on Monday. Citizens assembled in. the .Town Hall in force to join in paying'a tribute to the ship which, in the words of the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, ‘has almost become an institution m the community life.of Auckland.'' With that tribute the Government joined, personal messages being sent by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hin M. J. Savage, the Minister of Defence. the Hon. P. .Jones, and the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. ,W. E. Parry. A message if good wishes was also received from Dunedin. The Mayor said that the gathering was unique in. the history of the Dominion in that it was a, civic farewell to‘ a ship.—-P. A. I
