CONCESSION TO OLD AGE PENSIONERS.
SCHOOLS AND HALLS ALSO TO BENEFIT. (Press Association!. INVERCARGILL,. Feb. 12. The early linking up of tlae Soauuilaod power scheme with the AVaitaid generating station was foreshadowed by the Aiinister of Public AA’orks (Mr. Semple) this afternoon. Plans are well advanced, surveys of the route of the High tension lines are in hand and tenders for poles have been let. Air. Semple announced that, tor the nine months of this financial year, the net revenue from electricity in Southland had increased l>y £B3OO, after allowing for the abolition of meter rents and a reduction of 7d units to 6-ld. “By way of affording further concessions,” said the Aiinister. “I have arranged that bkl age pensioners are to receive -a supply on the basis of paying for what- they use. They are. not to be required to pay any vearly guarantee. The same privilege is extended to aJi schools and -public Halls\wHich can be served from the existing lines.”
