Word hs been received in Gisborne that Mr. It. E. Garrett, son of Air. T. H. Garrett, has passed section C in the civil engineers’ examination. Mr. Garratt had previously been awarded bis C.E. degree and is now entitled to use the letters A.M.I.C. E. Air. Garratt is one of the assistant engineers of the Cook County Council.

Tlie high esteem in which the late Mrs. W. F. Callaghan was held was shown by the representative attendance at the funeral yesterday. Prior to the interment Tcquiem mass was offered in St. Mary’s Church bv Father Berridge. The cortege, with the coffin covered with many beautiful floral emblems, then left for the cemetery, the pallbearers being Messrs. A. Shorrin, J. Davies, C- Tunc, R. Bait, P. Bennie and M. Smeaton. The service at the graveside was conducted by Father McMahon. assisted by Father Rogers.

Before commencing the business at the meeting of the Poverty Bay provincial meeting cf the Farmers’ Union yesterday, the chairman, Air. F. S. Bowen, referred to the death of Mr. B .Scott. There' was no one better known in Poverty Bay than Mr. Sectt. said the speaker. He had been an active member of the Farmers’ Union for many years and his end was very sudden. His death was a- distinct loss to the district. On the motion of the speaker, a vote of condolence with the relatives was passed in silence, members standing.
