Until that agreement was rescinded the council could not go back on the agreement. It could be rcescinded by handing back the registers. At the; end of lour years the registers became tho property of the council.—The subject then dropped.

At a meeting of local bodies bold in Gisborne on April 28, a motion was passed asking that leg'slation be provided so that the control'; of noxious weeds, particularly ragwort, could be taken over by rabbit boards and subsidies granted. The resolution was sent, to the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, and hits reply was forwarded to the Cook County clerk (Mr F. T. Robinson) to . the Borough Council last evening. The Minister stated that further legislation was not necessary and the question of .a subsidy would require to be given consideration.—-The letter was received.

When a constable discovered a broken window m the ground floor of the building occupied by .Holt's Advertising Agnicy, Wellington, about ll o'clock on Monday night, a . cordon of police was drawn round the block in which the premises were situ ated and ri search lasting several hours was intsituted. All. the premises in the block, including the city engineer’s department, were visited. Sounds were heard during the progress of the search and safe blowing and other equipment, were found in Uott’s premises.
