The demand in London proved wider than was expected, Germany being especially active in taking merinos. LIVE STOCK MARKET. FAT SHEEP ADANCE AT FEILDING. DAIRY CATTLE IN DEMAND. FEILDING, July 10. Prices for fat sheep continue to advance. fat ewes going lo 25 s lOd and fat wethers to. .32s (id, at the weekly stock sale to-day. The fat lambs offered were of inferior quality, no high prices being reached. A heavy yarding of maturo sheep, was totally cleared. Tlio total yarding of sheep was over 7000, with a fair proportion of ewes in lamb, and Ibese mostly being aged, the market proved sticky. Store lambs, however, sold well, black faced hoggets and ewe hoggets finding the market optimistic. A heavy yarding of dairy rows sold readily at. advanced prices, which were about 10s ahead of last week. Poiryfarmers aro certainly out to purchase with plenty of power of absorption still evident. Store cntlSe sold fairly well, with a. firm mark'd for potter cows. The fat cattle market showed a much better tone than of late, with a yarding of prime quality, including a proportion of ox beef. Prices for ox beef were about 27s Gd per 1001 b., with cow beef at 2-1 s. NEW ZEALAND’S SHEEP NEARLY A MILLION INCREASE. Preliminary figures published in th ■ current Gazette show an increaese in the number of sheep in New Zealand. At April 30 last, the approximate totai was 30,039,133, as compared with ‘29 - 070,734 sheep on the same date of the provious year. This represents an increase of 902,379. The sheep in the North Island at the end of April numbered 10,308,452, as compared with 15,749,010 a year previously—an increase of 559,430. BTC HEST POINT THIS YEA R. Up to the closing of business at t.ho end of last week the New Zealand butter market in London contained to improve and remained firm after a further Is per cwt. increase to 115 s. At this point, butter is worth over 13Id per lb., f.0.b., and slightly under 14-Ad per lb. on butterfat. The market is now at the highest point reached this year. Cheese* also continued to improve, white gaining 6d per cwt. on previous advice, though colored .remains unaltered. Mc-ssrs Joseph Nathan and Co., report having received the following advice from London under Saturday’s date: “Butter, 115 s. Cheese, white, Ol’S, colored CDs.. Both markets' are very firm.”
