TO SAVE THE BIRDS.
OATS AIUST WEAR DELLS! EDAIONTOX, June 12. Tho members of the town couwll of Stavelcy have a soft spot in their hearts for the wild and tame birds and entertain a. strong disapproval of marauding cats which prey on the feathered songsters. To ensure that the birds will have ample warning when pussy makes up his mind “ahunting I will go,” the town councillors of Stavelcy have passed a- ruling that every local cat must now carry a bell. It has boon found that a large number of unowned cats roam the village. These animals have become “wild as rabbits” and obtain thenfood by preying on the birds. It is stated these cats were mostly brought into Stavclev by the farmers who either intentionally or unintentionally left the cats behind to fend for themselves. The ■ new “belling” measure is directed mainly against these will cats as the pussy beloved as a family pet and supplied with liis saucer of milk at home will also bo supplied with a bell around liis neck while tho ownerless cats which carry no bell wiil ho removed by tho poundkeeper.
