Relief for America’s devastating heat >.spcll, which in ten days has taken a toll of 890 lives, appeared in the Far West to-day, when rain caused temperatures to drop from 100 degrees to 40 degrees. The rain, which waft sweeping in from the Rockies, was. however, draining. - ineffectively off the. drought-denuded land, which offered little resistance to the wasteful outflow. Heat persisted from Mississippi to flic Atlantic, relieved by showers in many Eastern States.
