Today’s matches having found the finalists, in the women’s singles and) the semi-finalists in most of the other sections. Airs Sperling entered the final of the women’s singles after a. soporific match of long base-line rallies With A'tadame Alathieu, who was exhausted in the second set by her opponent’s inartistic, but safe, tireless game. There was more vitality about the other .semi-final, Aliss Helen Jacobs .breaking up the much-improved Aldlie.' Jcdrejowska’s hard driving game by chops, which the Pole repeatedly overhit. Australia’s last hope rested in the hands of AlcGratli and Sproule, but a small centre-court crowd found nothing to enthuse over. The Americans, without, effo: t, won in straight sets. Sproule’s overhead work was very weak.
Borotra and Brugnon comfortably beat the American,. Cunningham, and the Japanese, I ton. but during the match Borotra ran into- the stop netting and! injired his leg. He continued in pain, and is now awaiting medical advice as to- whether ho will iv ithd raw. To-day’s matches resulted as fallows :
Women’s S'n-gles, semi-final: Airs Sperling beat Aladamo Alathieu, B—3 6—3; Aliss Jacobs' beat Aldlie. Jedr-zejow-slca,, 6—4, 6—2. Alen’s Doxibles, quarter-finals: Allison and Vam Rvn beat McGrath and Sproule. 6—4'. 6—3, 6-—4 ; Borort and Brugnon beat- I tali and Cunningham, 6—2, 7—5, 5—7, 6—2. Alixed Doubles, fourth round: Lege ay and Aldlie. Henrotin beat Van Rvn and Airs Van Ryn, 6—l. 7—5. Quarter-final; Budge and Airs Fabyan beat Kukujejvic and Countess de la Valdene. 6—o, 6 2.
