NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. NEXT TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN WELLINGTON. * (Press WELLINGTON, July 1. Tho annual meeting of the council of tho New Zealand Bowling Association opened to-day. Air. F. J. Good, Christchurch, who presided, said there was an increase of 659 membersDelegates praised the past executive for its administrative work. The Hon. W. Perry, the new president, assumed office, being duly congratulated. It was decided that tho tournament committee should consist of the executive, with such other members as they may appoint. The date of toe next tournament, which would be held in Wellington, was fixed for January 4, tho order of play to bo the same as last year and the system also to bo the same, with the exception that unbeaten sectional winners in the singles would go forward a-s two-lil’ers, other sectional winners and tics to go forward as one-lifors, us also all those with four wins in any section. On Air. Good’s suggestion, it was decided that three prizes of Iks ss. £3 3s, and £2 2s respectively should bo allocated. A Christchurch proposal that the playing of unstamped or incorrectly stamped bowls should bo penalised by disqualification in the game played and all previous games was lost on tli« voices. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES ENJOYABLE FUNCTION AT . GISBORNE CLUB PAVILION AIR L. BALFOUR’S CREDITABLE RECORD The annual presentation of trophies Avon by members during the sea. son was held in the Gisborne Club’s pavilion. Mr H. Miller, president of tho club, was in the chair ami (hero was an attendance of about 70, inoludiing representatives of the Kahtttia, Povc. ty Bay, and Strangers’ Clubs. The chairman referred to the success of Gisborne Club representatives in centre activiti®* during the season just closed, as well as tho general satisfaction felt by ineml*ers in a good club season. The record'of Mr L. Balfour, one of the younger niembs s. of the i/lib was mentioned with parL'oulnr sntivfaction in the course of the evening, this player’s name being coupled with the loath of “Centre, Trophy Winners.” It was pointed out that lie had joined the club ill the season' 1931-32, and that in his mitral season lio had captured the junior singles, •fallowing this success by repeating his win the next season. In 1933-34 he won the champion singles, and in the two succeeding years won the Horne Singles. His club successes also included the Orr Pairs in 1934-35, with Mr G. McGregor, and the champion pairs in 1935-36. with Captain J. W. H. Holmes. In competition under district centre auspices, Air Balfour was a member of the champion of champion rinltk in 1933 and 1935, and in the champion of champion pairs in 193 G; while ho was also a.'member of Captain J, W, H. Holmes’ winning

rinks in the Pcarc© Shield and Burton trophy tournaments. LIST OF’ TROPHIES

J. Barruvu and H. ; Gilmer. Champion Club Pairs : L. Balfour and J. W. H. Holmes. Club Fours : E. Iff O’Brien W. Neal, H. Aliller, and H. A. Armstrong.

In the course of the evening, •speaking for the junior members of the club, Mr E. W. Forrest expressed thanks to the bon. secretary, Mr J. S. Waite, for the conside'ation shown by him to the younger players and for tho encouragement which one and all of the newer players had received from him. The presentation of trophies won in centre competition by members of tho Gisborne Club was carried out at the request of the president, by Air AT. Doyle, who represented the Gisborne and East Coast Bowling Centre at the gathering. Reference was made in the course of tho evening to the return to active membership of Air J. g. Allan, after a lengthy, absence from the green owing to the hope being expressed that his recovery would be prog-essive, and that be would enjoy his former robust health. During t'he evening, mus’c and elocutionary items were contributed by Messrs W. Kohn, Athol Allen, V. Oaulton, C. V. Ha ire,, uud E. T. Doddrell. NOTES AND NEWS. Tho N C.\v Zealand bowlers played at Tweed Heads (Queensland) yesterday. Parker won by 21 to 16; Bockett and the Victorians drew 19—19 ’ Harrison, Higgott and the Victorians won 26 to B.—-P.A.
