Mr Hill has just completed an 8000 ft. feature length comedy romance called “The Waggon and the Star” which wai? filmed amidbt the scenic wonders of Southland. This is to be given a, British -Empire release this month. The directors of the company, after seeing the film, were convinced that world marked pictures could be- produced in New Zealand:, and that there, there i,s no need to import overseas stars.. Before- commencing their next big production,, they have sent Mr Hill and Mr Max Tovey as sound engineer, on. a tour of the leading provincial towns of New Zealand to search for talent suitable for parts in forthcoming pictures. Anybody, young or old, said Mr Hill to a- Times reporter last evening, is .a, potential screen type and one does not necessarily have - the perfect profile or form. Screen types c: to-day are wide and varied and character types such ns Wallace' Beery, Marie Dressier. George Arliss, May Robson, and many others .are great box office attractions. To this end the camera crew, With the latest Hollywood sound- eeording equipment will .make actual film and voice tests in •Gisborne, of. anyone- who has an ambition for a screen career. Anyone selected will be offered a contract by the Television Corporation. The tests will be carried our in private at the Cash Stores? studio, and will commence on Monday. Applications will be received personally at the, Opera House- where the casting- director will bo in attendance today from 9 a.m. till 1. p.m.. and from 4.3(1 p.m. till 5.30 p.m. and on Monday. Tuesday, and Wednesday next from O a.m. until 5.30 p.m. each day. The winners will be further t-cstcd in ai two-reel -short story film wlrch wdl be produced in and around Gisborne. This film when .screened elsewhere should be a publicity attraction 'or the town, and tlm- producers have already received offers of co-opera too and assistance from ma.nv citizens.
