AVhen aligljting from a. train at Pukckdhe railway station shortly before 7.30 to-night, a married, woman, Mrs. Charlotte Sutton Alee, 62, of Edinburgh Street, Pukekohe, fell under tho wheels of a carriage .and was killed, instantaneously. Mrs. Alee received terrible injuries to her head and .body and jacking, operation’s, which took over ah hour, were necessary before her body could he recovered.
Mrs. Alee was returning home alone by train after spending a. few days in Auckland. The accident was witnessed by AT. C. Duffy, of Pukekohe, who was waiting on the platform behind deceased in readiness to get off the train.
“T could see she. was agitated when she saw her husband on the sLatibn platfovrii,” ho said, “and stepped off tho train. She spun around and, losing her balance; rolled under the rear wheels of the carriage.” The accident was not seen by the train crew and tho train covered a carriage length before coming to a stop. Tlio train was delayed for over an hour. The southbound Limited express was diverted without delay. Airs. Alee is survived by her husband, a carpenter, of Pukekohe and ono son, who lives in Auckland.
